Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to prepare and apply concrete to slip-form or jump-form structures on residential, commercial or civil construction sites in the construction of multi storey buildings.It includes sequencing, placing and compacting concrete in formwork.It applies to concreters working as members of a team with at least a moderate degree of autonomy. They would be expected to complete routine activities without close supervision.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency in all states and territories except Tasmania. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm these requirements.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Plan and prepare to conduct off-form vertical concrete operations.
  • Review and clarify task to conduct off-form vertical concrete operations.
  • Review task specifications and check to make sure they are in accordance with legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Review work health and safety (WHS) requirements for the task in accordance with safety plans and policies.
  • Identify safety signage and barricade requirements.
  • Review environmental requirements for the task in accordance with environmental plans and legislative requirements.
  • Select plant, tools and equipment, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults.
  • Calculate material quantity requirements.
  • Acquire materials for the task and locate them safely ready for use.
       
Element: Set out and prepare slip-form or jump-form location.
  • Erect identified safety signage and barricades, and fit personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Set out the location and size of pour to requirements of job drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare equipment specifically associated with the installation of slip-formwork or jump-formwork concrete projects.
  • Prepare, place and fix edge formwork with plumb and align to specifications.
  • Apply form release agent to slip-formwork or jump-formwork with appliance or machine to specifications.
       
Element: Place and tie reinforcement and cast-in fittings.
  • Check reinforcement, accessories and cast-in fittings for conformity with design and specifications.
  • Position reinforcement and accessories in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Tie and/or weld reinforcement in correct placement in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
       
Element: Place, finish and cure concrete.
  • Determine sequencing of concrete from specifications.
  • Place concrete evenly into formwork in layers and consolidate to specification, avoiding material segregation and using approved compaction method.
  • Screed and finish concrete surface to specification ensuring cast-in fittings are clear.
  • Add curing compound in accordance with specifications.
  • Continue placement cycle after slip-form or jump-form formwork is progressed by riggers, avoiding cold joint.
       
Element: Clean up after conducting off-form vertical concrete operations.
  • Clear work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials in accordance with legislation, regulations, codes of practice and task requirements.
  • Clean, check, maintain and store tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and workplace requirements.

Assessment Tasks
